Softball Hits the Ball Long and Splits Sunday with Bruins

Box Score 1 | Box Score 2 NEWBERG, Ore. – Kathryn Hatlen added another homerun to her monster weekend and the Lutes split doubleheader with George Fox University on Sunday.

The Lutes (20-17, 11-13 NWC) struck first in the game one, plating three first inning runs off a pair of doubles from Kennedy Robillard and Mari Foster. The offensive fireworks didn't stop there with PLU adding nine more runs, including home runs from Anna Overland and Kathryn Hatlen to end the game in five.

Robillard continued her success in the circle pitching all five innings and only giving up three hits and one run.

"This weekend was huge for us and our players showed up from the first pitch of every game," said Head Coach Traci Barrett. "Offensively we have grown as a team and have gained maturity in looking for what we want to hit and being aggressive with our approach. Defensively we polished a lot from last weekend and got better. In the circle, Kennedy was dialed! She threw a 1-hit, 5 inning game today."

The Bruins (21-13, 13-10 NWC) controlled game two from the first inning. A homerun from Sydney Victor in the top of the fourth and another from Mari Foster in the top of the sixth abled the Lutes to not go quietly.

"We started off game one today strong with our bats but couldn't get it going soon enough in game two," Chaella Galapon. "Despite the loss, we played well as a team and constantly battled. We as a team have a lot of fight!"

"This weekend was a strong battle between us and George Fox," added Z Ellis. "Our hitting was very strong all weekend with very few errors on defense. These games show our fight on the field and will hopefully continue with us into the next series."

The Lutes return to the diamond on Friday as they host University of Puget Sound in the Battle of the South Sound beginning at 12 p.m.
