TACOMA, Wash. - The Pacific Lutheran University women's tennis team battled tooth and nail on Friday evening before coming up short against crosstown rival University of Puget Sound, falling 8-1 in a Northwest Conference dual at the Sprinker Recreation Center.
The Lutes (2-10, 0-5 NWC) provided stiff resistance at both No. 2 and No. 3 doubles before ultimately coming up short in both matches.
Kristi Floyd and
Michelle Batin fell 8-5 at No. 2 while
Kylie Rademacher and
Lauren Kearney fell by an identical scoreline at No. 3.
In singles, Batin rolled to the, 6-1, 6-4, victory over the Loggers' (6-5, 4-1 NWC) Alexis Choy while Kearney was outlasted, 7-5, 7-5 in a grueling three hour back and forth affair at No. 5. Rademacher was upended, 6-2, 6-2, at No. 4 while
Hannah Jeffries was thwarted, 6-1, 6-2, at the top singles spot.
"We had a tough loss today but I'm proud of how the student-athletes competed," said Head Coach
Cheri Campbell. "Michelle came up with a win and Lauren lost 5-7, 5-7, in a three-hour marathon. We've got a quick turnaround since we're back on the court for a 1 p.m. match tomorrow."
That match sees the Lutes host College of Idaho in a non-conference tilt.
