Magee Goals Lift Lutes Past Oles, 3-1

NORTHFIELD, Minn. - Leah Magee scored a pair of goals, helping the Pacific Lutheran University women's soccer team erase an early deficit en route to a 3-1 victory over host Saint Olaf College on Saturday to close out the Lutes' season opening road trip to Minnesota.

The host Oles (1-1) drew first blood, finding the back of the net off the boot of Claire Bash in the fifth minute. Saint Olaf's advantage proved fleeting with Magee netting the equalizer in the 10th minute off a feed from Alyssa Jordan. Maddie Landreth scored the eventual game-winner in the 27th minute as the Lutes (1-0-1) entered the halftime break with a 2-1 advantage.

Magee provided an insurance score for the Lutes in the 59th minute for her second score of the day while Jordan netted her second helper of the contest.

PLU dominated the stat sheet, enjoying a 20-5 edge in shots, including an 11-2 discrepancy in shots on frame while taking eight of the nine corner kicks in the game.

Cassidy Crosswhite made one save in 90 minutes of work in goal while the Oles' Brynne Davis stopped eight shots and conceded three goals in the complete game effort.

"I'm really proud of the team's character today. Anytime you're on the road and you go down 1-0 early in the game, its always curious to see how the team is going to respond. The players responded great and it just shows the character and leadership we have on this team," said Head Coach Seth Spidahl.

"To get 39 shots and 21 corners over two games, I'm very happy about that. We have so much to get better at but this team really cares a lot about their season and how good they want to be. We'll push them hard to be great but we also love them as a program and as a group, and we're just excited to get back on the field and continue to get better."

The Lutes are back in action on Friday night, facing Claremont-Mudd-Scripps Colleges at 7 p.m. in Claremont, California.
