TACOMA, Wash. – After a 5-0 dismantling of George Fox University yesterday, the Pacific Lutheran University men's soccer team had no issues with Pacific University on Sunday, sending the Boxers packing with a 2-0 defeat.
"Sundays in this conference are always tough because of the back-to-back," said PLU Head Coach
John Yorke. "I thought that we weren't as sharp as we would've liked to have been today, but we got the job done. We will take the six points and consider ourselves happy."
Sophomore
Archie Caldwell had his best game of the year for PLU in the weekend finale. Caldwell scored his first goal of the year in the 40
thminute as the Lutes went to the locker room with a 1-0 advantage.
Ryan Griffith and
Dane Helle provided the assists on Caldwell's goal.
In the second frame, the PLU attack continued to pepper the Boxer keeper, ripping eight more shots to hold a 13-1 advantage throughout the course of the game. Pacific's only shot of the game was easily saved by Lute keeper
Cole Weaver, who picked up his second shutout of the weekend.
Keeton Heggerness recorded his first career hat trick yesterday and continued that momentum today, finishing off the Boxers with his fourth goal of the weekend in the 73
rdminute. Caldwell picked up his second assist of the season on the Heggerness goal.
The Lutes (5-3-0, 2-0-0 NWC) hit the road next weekend when they take on in-state rivals Whitworth University and Whitman College on Saturday and Sunday, respectively.
