TACOMA, Wash. - The Pacific Lutheran University women's tennis team showed its strength at the top of the lineup on Saturday afternoon, edging in-state rival Highline College 6-3 in the Lutes' home opener inside the Sprinker Recreation Center.
Hannah Jeffries and
Sydney Cameron collected an 8-6 win at No. 1 doubles while
Bayley Gochanour and
Michelle Batin escaped with an 8-7 victory against the Thunderbirds' (0-1) No. 2 doubles team.
In singles action, the Lutes swept the top three singles positions with Cameron prevailing, 6-2, 6-3, and Jeffries rolling to a 6-4, 6-0, win at No. 2. Gochanour earned a 6-2, 6-3 win at No. 3 while
Taylor Stokes prevailed, 6-4, 6-0, at the No. 5 spot.
"These ladies continue to improve with their shot selection and putting points together," said Head Coach
Cheri Campbell. "Our one through three players came away with singles and doubles wins and we're looking to carry our momentum from today into next weekend."
The Lutes are back at home on Friday, hosting Community Colleges of Spokane at 5 p.m.
