TACOMA, Wash. – The Pacific Lutheran University women's tennis team won its second straight match at Sprinker Recreation Center on Friday night. After defeating Highline Community College last weekend, the Lutes swept the Community Colleges of Spokane in singles matches to defeat the Sasquatch 8-1.
PLU held a 2-1 edge after doubles action.
Hannah Jeffries and
Sydney Cameron scored an 8-5 victory at the top spot in the lineup and the Lutes picked up a forfeit win at the No. 3 position.
It was all PLU in singles action as the Lutes did not drop a set. Cameron earned a 6-4, 6-1 win at No. 1, while Jeffries added her second victory of the night with a 6-4, 3-0 win at No. 2. Cameron is a perfect 3-0 so far this season.
Bayley Gochanour won 6-3, 6-4 at the third spot in the order and
Michelle Batin scored her first 'W' of the year at No. 4 with a 6-3, 6-3 victory.
Taylor Stokes remained perfect in the early portion of the season with a dominating 6-1, 6-0 win at No. 5.
"The Lutes didn't play their best but showed their tenacity and fighting spirit to get the win on all the singles courts," said PLU Head Coach
Cheri Campbell. "We hope to carry the momentum to Sunday against Willamette."
PLU hosts Willamette University for a non-conference dual on Sunday morning. First serve is scheduled for 10:00 a.m.
