Women’s Tennis Stays Hot, Wins Third Straight

TACOMA, Wash. – The Pacific Lutheran women's tennis team won its third straight match on Sunday at the Sprinker Recreation Center.  The Lutes won all three doubles matches to defeat Willamette University 6-3.

"The ladies continued their momentum with another team win," said PLU Head Coach Cheri Campbell.  "We started out strong with a sweep of the doubles courts.  Sydney (Cameron) played smart points to win easily at No. 1.  Michelle (Batin) controlled the temp of her match at No. 4.  After a great swim season, Lauren adjusted to dry land with solid strokes and a win at No. 6.  I'm looking forward to working this week since it will be the first time all season that we'll have all 10 players on the court at the same time."

Hannah Jeffries and Sydney Cameron squeaked out an 8-7 victory in the top spot of the doubles lineup.  Bayley Gochanour and Michelle Batin scored an 8-5 win at No. 2, while Emma Lund and Taylor Stokes earned an 8-4 victory at No. 3 to sweep the Bearcats.

In singles play, Cameron was dominate at the top spot in the order with a 6-1, 6-1 victory.  Batin made quick work of her opponent at No. 4 with a 6-3, 6-2 win.  Lauren Kearney finished off Willamette with a huge 6-0, 6-2 victory at No. 6.

The Lutes (3-2) will remain at home next Saturday when they take on Whitworth University at 1:00 p.m. at Sprinker Recreation Center.
