#23 Bulldogs Bite Lutes 6-2

SEGUIN, Texas- Jordan Haworth had a big day at the plate, cranking out three hits but it wasn't enough as the Pacific Lutheran University baseball squad ended Friday evening on the wrong side of a 6-2 scoreline against 23rd-ranked Texas Lutheran University.

The Lutes (2-6) drew first blood, pushing across a run in the top of the first inning. Andy Schmitz drew a leadoff walk before advancing to second on a Tori Doten sacrifice bunt. A Cameron Clem groundout pushed Schmitz to third before scoring on a Jordan Haworth single to left field.

Pacific Lutheran's lead proved fleeting with the host Bulldogs' Tyler Cauley blasting a three-run home run in the bottom of the first to seize the early 3-1 lead.

The Lutes struck again in the fourth with Haworth getting things started with a double to left center field. Chase Lariza would trade places with Haworth later in the inning with an RBI double, closing the gap to just one run.

Texas Lutheran (6-2) would answer the call yet again, tacking on an insurance score in the bottom of the fourth on a sacrifice fly before pushing across another on a wild pitch in the sixth inning.

Three of PLU's five hits came off the bat of Haworth who finished three-for-four with an RBI.

On the hill, Noah Ferguson tossed the opening five innings, striking out four while Janson Pederson closed out the day, pitching the final three frames and striking out one.

"Haworth had some quality at bats today," said Head Coach Nolan Soete. "At this point we aren't being rewarded because we aren't playing the game the right way. We're making too many small mistakes and when that happens it's very tough to beat a good team like TLU."

The Lutes and Bulldogs close out the series tomorrow with a twinbill beginning at 12 p.m. (Central Time).
