TACOMA, Wash. - The Pacific Lutheran University men's tennis team experienced success at the top of the lineup but was unable to match the depth of in-state rival Whitworth University on Sunday, suffering its first blemish of the season in a 6-3 setback at the Sprinker Recreation Center.
In doubles,
Michael Campbell and
Hampus Pers Eliasson collected an 8-3 victory at No. 1 over the Pirates' (2-4) tandem of Ben Bethards and Ethan Violette. At No. 2
Ryan Adams and
Jake Kim battled but ultimately came up short 8-4.
In singles,
Ryan Adams rolled to a 7-6 (7-3), 6-3, victory over Sean Singco at No. 1 while Pers Eliasson notched a, 6-0, 6-3 decision ar No. 3.
"Our No. 1 doubles team played great!" said Head Coach
John Campbell. "Ryan ground out a tough match at No. 1 singles and Hampus continues to steamroll his opponents. All in all, we're very happy with how we continue to get better every day and every match! Whitworth was a great test for us and we look forward to playing them again in conference."
The Lutes (3-1) return to the court next Saturday, hosting Otterbein University at 1 p.m.
