Men's Tennis Ousts Otterbein 5-4

TACOMA, Wash. - The Pacific Lutheran University men's tennis team showed off its strength at the top of the lineup once again, rallying from an early deficit to take down Otterbein University 5-4 in a non-conference showdown on Saturday inside the Sprinker Recreation Center.

Michael Campbell and Hampus Pers Eliasson combined for the Lutes' (4-1) lone doubles win, prevailing 8-5 over the Cardinals' (8-3) Connor Radune and Brandon Wall at the No. 1 position.

In singles, Ryan Adams collected the, 7-6, 4-6, 1-0 (10-6) win at No. 1 while Campbell etched out a, 6-3, 7-6 (9-7) decision at No. 2. Pers Eliasson prevailed, 6-3, 6-7, 1-0 (10-6) at No. 3 while Brandon Near rallied to win, 4-6, 6-4, 1-0 (10-8) at No. 6.

"We had a hard fought 5-4 team win," said Head Coach John Campbell. Hampus and Michael gave us a good start with another solid win at No. 1 doubles. Ryan pulled out two tiebreaks at No. 1 singles playing the big pressure points well. Michael started off 0-3 but ran off eight straight games before closing out his win in a tiebreak. Hampus had his first scare of the season but pulled out another third set tiebreak staying undefeated at 12-0 this season. Finally Branson closed out the team win with great pressure play in another third set tiebreak!"

The Lutes have little time to rest, returning to action tomorrow at noon for a showdown against Lewis & Clark College in Portland.
