Sararose Gallo is not only a biology major, but also a dual-sport athlete.
She participates in both cross country and track and field, a common crossover for PLU runners. Along with a degree in biology, she will also graduate with a minor in Chinese Studies.
Gallo recalled cross country pre-season breakaway camps as one of her favorite sports memories, where she and her teammates enjoyed training in the summer without the pressure of classes.
She believes athletics has prepared her to be successful in her future endeavors.
"It has enhanced my discipline, resilience, and drive to accomplish goals." Gallo said.
Gallo competed in 22 cross country races for the Lutes over the past four seasons. That included toeing the line at all four Northwest Conference Championship meets and all four NCAA West Region Championship meets. This fall, Gallo helped the Lutes finish 10th at the West Region Championships, PLU's best finish since the 2002 season.
On the track, the Grayland, Washington native competed in 13 meets over the past four seasons, racing in the 1,500-meters and the 5,000-meters. Gallo was unable to compete this spring with her last race on the track a fourth-place finish in the 5,000-meters at the Lewis & Clark Invitational on April 20, 2019.
"I've really enjoyed working with Sararose in both cross country and track & field over the last four years," said Head Coach
Adam Frye. "Her fitness and confidence have grown significantly during her career. Seeing her accomplish her goal of running sub-20 in the 5k last spring was really special. Sararose has been an important part of the growth of our program's culture and performance."
After graduation, Gallo plans to apply for Veterinary Medical School.
