TACOMA, Wash. - Throughout the rest of the semester, GoLutes.com will profile the Pacific Lutheran University senior student-athletes involved in spring sports that had their seasons cut short due to the COVID-19 pandemic. Today's installment features PLU baseball student-athlete Jacob Mortensen.

Highlights: Team Record: 109-75 43 pitching  appearances 8-1 record on mound

Jacob Mortensen has seen plenty of success during his five-year stint with the Lutes. His run with the program saw PLU rack up 109 wins, including an impressive 66-36 record in conference play. He was a part of the 2016 team that won 29 games and advanced to the NCAA West Region Final and the 2018 squad that won the NWC regular season title.

"Jacob has experienced a great amount of success during his time at PLU. He grew up as the son of a baseball coach, so when he arrived at PLU you could tell right away that he was a student of the game," said Head Coach Nolan Soete.

The righthander from Yakima, Washington made 43 appearances on the mound over the past five seasons, including six starts. Mortensen boasts a career 8-1 record on the mound with one save and 57 strikeouts. The kinesiology major logged 106 innings on the mound with a 4.16 earned run average.

Most importantly, Mortensen was a winner. In his final two seasons, he boasted a 4-0 record on the mound. But Mortensen did more than just pitch, also seeing action as a position player in both the 2018 and 2019 seasons.

"Throughout the years he has performed well when called upon as a starting pitcher and he has been one of our most trusted bullpen arms over the last couple seasons. During his junior year he established himself as one of the team's most respected leaders on and off the field. He is a great competitor and was an absolute pleasure to coach."

The winning attitude and toughness Mortensen displayed as a Lute will serve him well as he moving into the professional world.
