Game Recap: Women's Soccer |

Lutes Defeated in Walla Walla

WALLA WALLA, Wash.  – The Pacific Lutheran University women's soccer team was shut out for the just the second time this season on Sunday as the Lutes fell on the road at Whitman College, 1-0.

"It was a tough outcome for us today," said PLU Head Coach Seth Spidahl.  "We did not get off to a very good start and credit to Whitman because they did.  They brought a lot of energy and a lot of physicality.  They scored on us early on a corner.  We weren't at level we needed to be at the start of the game."

The Blues scored just 3:26 into the match and the Lutes were unable to match the tally, despite outshooting the Blues 16-3 on the afternoon.  PLU produced eight shots on goal over the course of the afternoon to just two by Whitman.  Blue keeper Hanna Lynch made eight saves to earn the shutout.  Calie Rose took the loss for the Lutes, after making a save and allowing the goal.

Hannah Cecil was the most active offensive threat on the afternoon, placing all four of her shots on goal.  Fellow freshman Julia Causbie ripped three attempts and placed one of them on net.  Alyssa Leong, Ellie Reardon and Sawyer Anderson also had shots on goal.

"We had lots of clear-cut chances for goals," said Spidahl.  "We just didn't score.  I hate to use the word unlucky, but sometimes that's just soccer.  It's a tough lesson to learn.  We weren't mentally sharp for the first twenty minutes and it cost us."

The loss snaps a nine-match winning streak against the Blues and a 13-match unbeaten streak.  It was the first loss against Whitman since October 18, 2014.

PLU will return home next weekend when they host Linfield University and Lewis & Clark College at East Field.  Kickoff for both matches is scheduled for 12:00 p.m.
