Women's Soccer Blanks Pioneers on Senior Day

TACOMA, Wash. – Pacific Lutheran University women's soccer senior Vivian Shinall had an assist and Kimber Thomas scored her second career goal as the Lutes cruised past Lewis & Clark College on Senior Day at East Field.

"I was really impressed by our performance today, especially in the second half," said PLU Head Coach Seth Spidahl.  "I thought we played some of our best soccer all year.  Lewis & Clark is a good team, a tough team and top-four in the conference.  Overall I thought we got better as the game wore on.  It was very, very tough weather to play in.  I'm just really proud of the team.  I'm really excited that all four seniors had a great impact today.  It was great to honor them and thank them.  It's a great day to be a Lute."

Shinall assisted on freshman Hannah Cecil's first goal of the afternoon.  Cecil scored her team-leading sixth goal of the season in the 21st minute.  It was the only goal of the first half for the Lutes despite eight shots and a pair on goal.

The Pioneers kept the pressure on the Lute defense with 10 shots including seven on net in the first 45 minutes.  Senior Calie Rose got the start in goal and made six stops in the first half.  She teamed with Shaylin Cesar for the second straight day to complete the shutout.

In the second half, in monsoon-like conditions Cecil scored again for her seventh tally of the year, and Thomas finished off the Pioneers when she knocked in a corner kick from Sawyer Anderson.

The Lutes dominated the second half with seven shots to Lewis & Clark's one.  Senior Alyssa Jordan nearly had a goal as well, but was denied by the Pioneer keeper.

PLU (14-2, 10-2 NWC) will remain at home next weekend when they host Pacific University on Saturday and Willamette University on Halloween.  Both kickoffs are scheduled for noon.
