LOS ANGELES, Calif. - Josie Napoli scored a career-high 24 points as the Pacific Lutheran University women's basketball squad closed out its California road swing with a 70-59 victory over Occidental College.
The visiting Lutes (3-2) led wire-to-wire, earning their third consecutive victory.
Kasidy Javernick and
Ava Edmonds tallied the opening two baskets of the game, setting the tone for the Lutes. PLU's lead ballooned to as many as 10 points in the opening quarter after a pair of
Taylor Schmidtke free throws but led just 21-17 at the conclusion of quarter one.
PLU led 35-28 at the halftime intermission. The Tigers (2-1) threatened in the third quarter, closing the gap to a single possession with 6:51 left and again with 4:39 remaining but the Lutes answered the bell each time. PLU led 52-43 heading into the fourth and held a double digit advantage a majority of the final stanza en route to the win.

Napoli led all scorers with 24 points, hitting 10 of her 16 attempts from the field, including draining four three-pointers in the game. The first-year additionally dished out five assists. Edmonds finished with 11 points and four rebounds while Javernick and
Stacie Spahr both provided nine points and seven boards.
PLU takes the week off before opening Northwest Conference play on December 3, facing Lewis & Clark College in Portland, Oregon.
