TACOMA, Wash. - The Pacific Lutheran University men's swimming squad was unable to match the depth of Whitworth University on Friday evening, coming up short 138-54 in the Northwest Conference dual meet opener at the PLU Pool.
"It was our first conference dual with both men and women on deck in a long time so it was great to have the entire team cheering each other on," said Head Coach
Matt Sellman.
"The team swam well considering it's the first time swimming longs in a very long time. We learned a lot about what we need to do to get better."
The Lutes' 400-yard medley relay team of
Devin Stanley,
Seth Koivisto,
Christiaan Chandler, and
Carson Braddoch opened the meet with a second place finish, stopping the clock in three minute, 44.46 seconds.
Koivisto logged two more runner-up showings on the night, placing second in both the 200-yard individual medley (2:03.94) and the 200-yard breaststroke (2:16.29).
Charlie Cutter was runner-up in the 50-yard freestyle in 22.77 and later placed third in the 200-yard butterfly (2:18.21). Chandler took second billing in the 100-yard freestyle (52.20) while
Luke Farag was second in the 500-yard freestyle, finishing in 5:28.90.
Henri Coronado-Volta was second in the 1,000-yard freestyle (13:08.61) and the 400-yard freestyle relay team of Stanley, Farag, Chandler, and Cutter, capped off the night by placing second in 3:28.68.
The Lutes return to the pool tomorrow at noon, hosting Whitman College.
