WALLA WALLA, Wash. - Seth Koivisto won a pair of events but the Pacific Lutheran University men's swimming team could not match the firepower of a rested Whitman College on Saturday, falling 136-105 to the host Blues.
"The men had a great day but unfortunately ran up against a team swimming their last meet, rested and suited," said Head Coach
Matt Sellman. "We competed well and showed guts we just couldn't get to the wall first often enough."
Koivisto and
Christian Cutter nabbed the top two spots in the 50-yard breaststroke. Koivisto led the way, touching the wall in 26.83 seconds for the comfortable win while Cutter stopped the clock in 28.10. The duo would finish one-two again later in the meet with Koivisto winning the 100-yard breaststroke in 57.63 with Cutter runner-up in 1:02.31.
Ethan Trieu claimed the Lutes' third event win of the afternoon, besting the field in the 100-yard individual medley with a time of 53.99.
Carson Braddoch logged a runner-up finish in the 200-yard freestyle, touching the wall in 1:47.02.
Christiaan Chandler was second in the 100-yard butterfly, touching the wall in 56.03 while Trieu was second in the 50-yard freestyle in 22.09.
Koivisto was runner-up in the 50-yard butterfly (23.79) while the Lutes also registered second place finishes in both the 200-yard medley relay (1:38.14) and the 400-yard freestyle relay (3:42.47).
The Lutes take next weekend off before facing crosstown nemesis University of Puget Sound on March 5 & 6 to cap off the 2021 season.
