TACOMA, Wash. — Derek Stone and Alex Richter won their singles and doubles match Saturday to lead the Pacific Lutheran University men's tennis team to a 7-2 victory against Willamette University at Sprinker Rec Center.
Stone, playing No. 3 singles, defeated Quentin Nigbur 5-7, 6-3, 6-3, while Richter, playing No. 4 singles, defeated Luke Hiserman 6-0, 6-4.
The duo then teamed up in No. 2 doubles to defeat Nigbur and Andrew Kropp 8-3 to give the Lutes (2-2) the win.
"I'm really proud of how the Lutes men competed today," head coach Paul Koessler said. "We had really impressive straight set wins at No. 4, 5 and 6 singles, while Michael Campbell pulled out another win against a great player in three sets after dropping the first set. He competed his heart out and persevered in a well-deserved win."
Campbell won the No. 1 singles match after dropping the first set 1-6, before rallying 6-3, 7-5. Sam Kwon won his singles match 6-1, 6-1 and Branson Near won his 6-0, 6-1. Marcus Lee lost his No. 2 singles match 6-2, 6-2.
In doubles, Campbell teamed up with Lee to win 8-7 (7), while Kim and Near lost 6-4 (injury).
The Lutes are back in action at 10 a.m. Saturday at the University of Puget Sound.
