WALLA WALLA, Wash. — The Pacific Lutheran University women's basketball team dropped its season finale Saturday, 66-44, to Whitman College.
The Lutes (3-8) jumped out to a 7-2 lead on a layup by
Toni Thibert, a jumper by
Megan Drake and a three-pointer by
Ava Edmonds with 6 minutes, 29 seconds remaining in the first quarter. After a 6-0 run by Whitman,
Alexis Kleven hit a 3-pointer for a 10-8 lead but trailed by 10 at halftime.
Twice in the third quarter, the Lutes pulled within seven. The first time with 6:02 left in the quarter on a 3-pointer by
Emma Janousek and the second time with 5:09 left on a layup by
Madison Salisbury. Whitman pulled away in the fourth for the win.
Janousek had a team-high 12 points with four rebounds and two assists. Salisbury added seven points and seven rebounds, Edmonds had six points and five rebounds, Thibert had five points and four rebounds and
Hailey Marsh had seven boards.
The Lutes forced 17 turnovers and grabbed 34 rebounds, while their bench outscored the Blues 10-6.
