Men's Tennis Plundered by Pirates

TACOMA, Wash. - Michael Campbell and Marcus Lee picked up their fifth doubles win of the season on Saturday but it wasn't enough as the Pacific Lutheran University men's tennis squad was unable to match the firepower of Northwest Conference nemesis Whitworth University, falling 8-1 at the Sprinker Recreation Center.

Campbell and Lee dispatched the Pirates' No. 1 tandem of Ethan Violette and Nathan Tjelli by an 8-4 scoreline, improving to 5-2 on the season. PLU's No. 2 and No. 3 doubles teams fell by identical 8-2 scorelines.

In singles, Campbell battled at No. 1 before ultimately coming up short, 7-6, 1-6, 6-2, while Lee suffered a three set setback as well at the No. 3 spot, taking the opening set 6-3, but falling 6-3 and 6-1 in the next two. Jake Kim came up just short at the No. 5 singles spot, falling, 6-3, 6-4.

The Lutes (2-5, 1-5 NWC) close out their home slate next Saturday, hosting Lewis & Clark College at 2 p.m.
