TACOMA, Wash. – On a beautiful afternoon on the campus of Pacific Lutheran University, the Lute softball team defeated Lewis & Clark College in the first game 3-2 on Saturday before losing 16-7 in the nightcap.
Game 1
Mari Foster opened the scoring in the second inning with a two-run shot to center field. It was Foster's fifth homer of the spring. The Lutes added another tally in the third when
Erin McGrath doubled and
Casey Wright singled up the middle to drive her in.
Those three runs were all senior hurler
Kennedy Robillard needed in the circle. The Pioneers got just two runs over the seven frames, both of which came in the fourth inning. Robillard struck out six and walked just one to earn her fourth victory of the season.
Game 2
The Lutes looked like they would sweep the visitors with wire-to-wire victories. PLU led Lewis & Clark 6-3 after six innings, but 13 Pioneer runs propelled them to a 16-7 victory.
PLU scored in all but two innings in the second game with a Wright single driving in
Cailey Collado to open the scoring in the first inning.
Sarah Potwin blasted a two-run homer in the second and Wright added another RBI single for a three-run inning.
Foster continued an impressive afternoon with an RBI single in the fourth and a solo homer in the sixth.
Mikayla Chun completed the scoring for the Lutes with a solo homer in the bottom of the seventh.
Wright, Foster and Potwin all had multiple hits and a pair of RBI. Shortstop
Chaella Galapon also had a pair of safeties.
The Lutes and the Pioneers will meet again tomorrow with first pitch scheduled for 11:00 a.m.
