Box Score 2 FOREST GROVE, Ore. – The Pacific Lutheran University softball team scored 20 runs on Saturday, including 15 in a Game 2 victory over Pacific University. The Lutes dropped Game 1, 9-5, to the Boxers, but rallied for a 15-3 win in the nightcap.
Game 1
Leading 3-2 after five full innings, the Lutes were unable to close out the victory and allowed the Boxers to score seven runs in the bottom of the sixth en route to a 9-5 win in the opening game of the day.
Pacific broke open the scoring with two runs in the second, but PLU responded with three runs in the third. With two on and two out,
Mari Foster singled to left field to drive in
Taylor Shigeta and
Kennedy Robillard followed with another safety to score Foster and
Erin McGrath.
The Lutes would not go quietly as they entered their final at-bat trailing by six runs. Robillard came through again with two outs, driving in
Casey Wright and McGrath with a single to right.
Robillard had two of the team's eight hits and drove in four of the team's five runs. McGrath finished the game 1-for-2 with a pair of walks and two runs scored.
Game 2
PLU held a 3-2 lead again in Game 2, but this time exploded for 12 runs over the final three innings and cruised to a dominant 15-3 victory.
Shigeta continued an incredible weekend going 3-for-5 with a double and a RBI from the leadoff spot.
Mari Foster had four hits in the second game of the day and drove in a pair.
Anna Foster scored three times, while freshman
Kassidi Dean went 2-for-4 with two RBI and two runs scored.
Kamryn Adkins also clubbed a two-run homer, her first of the season, in the second inning.
Robillard picked up her seventh win of the season and second of the weekend after relieving starter
Cassidy Conrad. The senior pitched 4 1/3 innings and allowed just one earned run on five hits.
The Lutes will play one more four-game conference series before completing the regular season next weekend. PLU will host University of Puget Sound on Saturday for a doubleheader beginning at 12:00 p.m. and the Loggers will host the Lutes for a pair at 11:00 a.m. on Sunday.
