Setting the Scene: It's a quiet week in Luteville with baseball the lone program in action. The Lutes wrap up the regular season on the road in McMinnville, Oregon against Linfield University while women's rowing and men's and women's track & field have the weekend off.

Baseball: The Lutes (21-15, 17-10 NWC) head into the final weekend of the regular season jockeying for seeding position in the 2021 NWC Tournament. Pacific Lutheran still has a chance to claim the top spot and host the three-day double elimination tourney but needs help in the form of losses from Willamette University and NWC leading Pacific University.
 
Last weekend, the Lutes dropped three of four in the home finale against Whitman College. PLU's lone win was an 8-7 decision to open up Sunday.
 
Jordan Haworth headlined the weekend for the Lutes, boasting a .471 batting average with seven RBIs, four runs scored, and two home runs against Whitman. 
 
Women's Rowing: 12th-ranked Pacific Lutheran torched the opposition on Sunday morning, securing the program's fifth consecutive Northwest Conference title. The Lutes' second varsity eight set the tone for the day, earning a 10-second win over Lewis & Clark College. PLU's varsity eight followed up with a blowout win, blazing down the 2,000-meter course in six minutes, 50.1 seconds to secure the crown.
 
After the races, Hannah Beach, Jessie Dougherty and Julianna Johnson were named All-NWC while Head Coach Andy Foltz was tabbed NWC Coach of the Year for the fifth time in his tenure at PLU. 
 
Softball: PLU (15-21, 12-16 NWC) capped off the 2021 campaign by taking three of four against arch-nemesis University of Puget Sound. The Lutes earned a doubleheader sweep in Saturday's home finale, prevailing 3-2 and 8-1. On Sunday, the Lutes won the opener 8-3 to take the series before stumbling 3-2 in the season finale. 
 
Emma Ware boasted a 1.600 slugging percentage over the weekend, belting two home runs, collecting three RBIs, and scoring three runs. Inside the circle, Z Ellis tossed 10 2/3 innings with nine strikeouts and a 1.31 earned run average.
 
Men's Track & Field: Seth Bridge headlined the weekend for the Lutes, winning a pair of events in Bellingham at the Ralph Vernacchia Track & Field Meet. Bridge won the shot put with a heave of 54 feet, 0 inches, a mark that ranks 10th nationally before taking the discus with a heave of 160' 6". 
 
On the track, Ryan Stracke was second in the 5,000-meters, clocking a time of 14 minutes, 43.51 seconds. 
 
The Lutes are off this weekend before competing at the 2021 NWC Championships that begin next Thursday at Pacific University.
 
Women's Track & Field: Bailey Forsyth continued her record breaking season, shattering the school record in the 100-meters yet again. The senior won the race by a comfortable margin, crossing the tape in 11.87 before winning the 200-meters in 24.72 for good measure. On Monday, Forsyth earned NWC Track Athlete of the Week for the fourth time this spring. 
 
In the field events, Lauren Wilson won the high jump, clearing a season-best 5' 6 ½" while Katelyn Harris was runner-up in the hammer throw. 
 
Academic All-District: College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA) released their Academic All-District awards winners for basketball this week with women's hoopers Emma Janousek and Madison Salisbury earning First Team honors for District 8 while men's roundballers Seth Hall and Jordan Thomas earned the honor as well. No other NWC basketball players were recognized as All-Region and all four have a chance to earn Academic All-American honors later this spring.
