TACOMA, Wash. – The Pacific Lutheran University men's soccer team started off the season with a 3-0 victory over The Evergreen State College under the lights at East Field.
Keeton Heggerness broke the ice in the 22
nd minute after taking a nice cross from freshman
Jordan Ross. Just over four minutes later,
Dane Helle ripped a shot into the top left corner of the goal, past a diving Geoduck keeper and it was quickly 2-0 in favor of the home team.
Junior defender
Alex White added the final tally in the 60
th minute when he headed in a corner kick from
Robby Guyer.
It was a dominant victory for the Lutes as they out shot Evergreen 22-4 on the evening and owned a striking 11-1 advantage on corner kicks. Nicolas Gaston made two saves in just over 60 minutes to pick up the victory, while
Lucas Hempen made a stop in relief. In total, 23 Lutes saw the field.
PLU (1-0) will continue non-conference action on Saturday in Colorado Springs when they take on Lake Forest College at 3:30 p.m.
