COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. - Four different Lutes found the back of the net and six total Lutes notched a point on Saturday with the Pacific Lutheran University men's soccer team opening its Colorado trip with an emphatic 4-0 win over Lake Forest College at Stewart Field.
Dane Helle got the party started in the ninth minute, scoring an unassisted goal before
Keeton Heggerness double the score in the 26th minute, beating the keeper with a shot in the lower left corner on an assist from
Archie Caldwell.
Brandt Kelly made it 3-0 in the 89th minute off a helper from
Craig Johnson before
Ayden Lawes collected a score just moments later on an assist from Kelly.
"It was good to get our first win of the year against Division III competition," said Head Coach
John Yorke. "Lake Forest is very organized and presented a different set of challenges than we normally see back home. It was good to have to solve some issues that we don't normally see. Scoring four goals is always a good thing and it was nice to see Ayden get his first career PLU goal."
Lucas Hempen turned away a pair of shots to net the clean sheet in goal. PLU (2-0) outgunned the Foresters (0-2) 15-5, including a 7-2 edge in shots on frame.
Through the opening two games of the season, Pacific Lutheran has outscored its opponents 7-0.
"There is definately some areas where we still need to show some improvement. We're looking forward to getting back on the field on Monday against a very good Gustavus team."
The Lutes are back on the pitch on Monday afternoon, facing Gustavus Adolphus College at 1 p.m.
