Lutes Pound Pioneers to Win Eighth Straight

Box Score PORTLAND, Ore. – After a scoreless first half, the Pacific Lutheran University women's soccer scored two goals in the second half to win their eighth consecutive game to start the 2021 season and move to a perfect 4-0 in Northwest Conference play.

"It was a tough game today," said PLU Head Coach Seth Spidahl.  "Lewis and Clark is a very physical and direct team and it's always a very competitive game.  There were some moments that we thought we could've scored, but they defended it well."

Freshman Julia Causbie connected on the game-winner in the 61st minute for her third goal and ninth point of the season.  Junior Ellie Reardon registered her first career goal in the 82n minute to put an exclamation mark on the conference victory.

Eva Wirth picked up her fourth shutout of the season after she made four stops in the second half.  The Lute defense did not allow a shot attempt in the first half.

"I'm very proud of the team," said Spidahl.  "We found a way to win on Sunday in the Northwest Conference away from home and that's never easy.  It was kind of our first test to play two games on the road and see how we did on the second day.  I'm really proud of the character they showed."

The Lutes (8-0, 4-0 NWC), who are ranked 19th in the nation, will remain on the road next weekend when they head to Pacific University on Saturday and take on Willamette University on Sunday.  Both kickoffs are scheduled for 12:00 p.m.
