TACOMA, Wash. - The Pacific Lutheran University men's tennis team was nearly flawless in Sunday's home opener, smashing Community Colleges of Spokane 9-0 at Sprinker Rec Center in the Lutes' final tune-up before beginning the Northwest Conference dual meet season next weekend.
The Lutes (2-0) didn't give an inch in doubles play, winning all three matches by 8-0 scorelines.
Michael Campbell and
Hampus Pers Eliasson cruised to the 8-0 win at the No. 1 spot to remain perfect this spring in dual matches while
Derek Stone and
Caleb Grass notched their first dual wins of the spring at No. 2 as did
Alex Richter and
Lars Wangen at the No. 3 spot.
In singles, it was the bottom of the lineup that pulled out all the stops with Stone, Grass, and Wangen all winning by, 6-0, 6-0, scorelines playing at the No. 4, No. 5, and No. 6 positions on Sunday.
Campbell netted a, 6-0, 6-1, decision over the Bigfoot's Jess Weaver at No. 1 with Pers Eliasson winning by the same score at No. 2. Richter prevailed at the No. 3 spot, disposing of Jason Hopper by a, 6-0, 6-2 scoreline.
"The Lutes men's tennis team ran the table against the visiting Spokane CC winning 9-0. The doubles was perfect in three 8-0 wins taking huge momentum into the singles," said Head Coach
Paul Koessler. "They didn't disappoint as Lars, Caleb, and Derek all shut out their opponents in 6-0 6-0 wins. Michael, Hampus, and Alex were also impressive in straight set wins."
The Lutes are back at home on Sunday, opening NWC action by hosting Lewis & Clark College.
