Hampus Pers Eliasson won both of his matches on Sunday at Sprinker Recreation Center for the Pacific Lutheran University men's tennis team, but those were the only victories for the Lutes against Lewis & Clark College as they fell, 7-2.
In doubles action, Pers Eliasson teamed with
Michael Campbell for an 8-6 victory at the top spot in the lineup. The Swede played at the No. 2 position in singles action and came away with a 6-4, 6-4 victory over Logan Hausler. Campbell took Kristian Peev to three sets at the top spot, but ran out of steam in the third set, 6-3, 4-6, 6-1.
Samuel Kwon made his season debut at the No. 6 spot in the singles order and put up a strong fight against Bennet Gazor, but eventually succumbed, 6-4, 6-4.
The match was the conference opener for the Lutes who started 2-0 in non-league action. PLU will step back into non-conference play next weekend when they take on Lewis-Clark State College at 6:00 p.m. on Friday in Walla Walla. The Lutes will then take on Whitman College on Saturday and Whitworth University on Sunday.
