Setting the Scene: It's a big week in Luteville with 10 programs competing, including four programs hosting home competitions. Softball and men's tennis make their spring season debuts while baseball and women's tennis gear up for their home openers. Men's and women's swimming make the short trek to Federal Way for the 2022 Northwest Conference Championships while basketball hosts the Whits with the men looking to remain atop the NWC standings. 
 
Lute Legion Assemble: In welcoming students back to campus for the spring semester, Lute students attending Friday night's basketball doubleheader will receive Lute Legion t-shirts while supplies last. Make sure to show up, be loud, and support the Black and Gold!

Men's Basketball: The Lutes (15-6, 10-2 NWC) sit tied atop the league standings with Friday's opponent Whitworth University after winning their last five games. PLU closed out its regular season road schedule last weekend, smashing Willamette University 102-91 before taking down George Fox University 83-72.
 
Seth Hall paced the Lutes on Friday against the Bearcats, scoring 30 points while Jordan Thomas dropped 22 points in both games and on Monday was tabbed the NWC Player of the Week.
 
The Lutes close the regular season with four straight home games. PLU is 7-0 at home this year and are in the hunt for the program's first NWC crown since the 1986 season.
 
Women's Swimming: Pacific Lutheran (8-0, 7-0 NWC), the NWC dual meet champions, make the short trip north to the King County Aquatic Center for the NWC Championships. 
 
Jessica Ordaz owns the top seed time heading into the championships in the 50-yard freestyle and the 100-yard butterfly while Malia Wisham owns the top time in the 200-yard freestyle. The Lutes' also boast the fastest 200-yard free relay in the NWC and own the second fastest times in three individual events and two relays.
 
Baseball: The Lutes (2-0) earned a doubleheader sweep in the Lone Star State last Saturday to open the lid on the 2022 season. Tommy Snyder tossed six innings of scoreless ball in an 8-2 win in the opener while Cole Trotignon went seven innings in a 13-2 thrashing of host Texas Lutheran University in game two.
 
Snyder was named the NWC Pitcher of the Week on Monday while Trotignon was tabbed the NWC Hitter of the Week, finishing six-for-seven at the plate with six RBIs and two home runs. 
 
Women's Tennis: PLU (1-2) has two matches this weekend, including the home opener on Saturday against College of Idaho. The Lutes opened the spring two weeks ago in Arizona, playing three matches, including a 6-3 win over Paradise Valley Community College.
 
Meggie Burnett finished the week with a pair of wins in both singles and doubles while Ella Burriss, Jillian Chong, and Libertad Sarmiento all picked up wins in singles action.
 
Softball: The Lutes open the 2022 season on Friday in Texas with a doubleheader against Trinity University. PLU will play six games over the course of the weekend before heading to California the following weekend. The Lutes were picked fifth in the NWC Coaches' Poll after finishing last season with a 15-21 record and a 12-16 mark in NWC play. Be on the lookout for the softball season preview later this week.
 
Men's Swimming: The Lutes (2-4-1, 2-4-1 NWC) gear up for the four-day NWC Championships beginning tomorrow. Seth Koivisto will be competing in his final conference meet and enters the competition with the second fastest times in both the 100-yard breaststroke and the 200-yard breaststroke while owning the fourth fastest time in the 200-yard individual medley.
 
Women's Basketball: Pacific Lutheran (5-13, 2-9 NWC) closes out their regular season road schedule tonight in McMinnville against Linfield University. Over the weekend the Lutes came up short 77-61 against Willamette University and fell 75-64 to George Fox University.
 
Against Willamette, Josie Napoli established a career-high, scoring 25 points in just 27 minutes of game action. ON Saturday it was Ava Edmonds' time to shine, posting a career-best 22 points in game the Lutes trailed by just six late in the fourth quarter.
 
Track & Field:
The Lutes resume the indoor season on Saturday, competing at the Whitworth Invitational at The Podium in Spokane.
 
Last time out, defending NCAA Champion Bailey Forsyth competed in the 60-meters and 200-meters at the UW Invitational. Bailey currently ranks ninth in Division III in the 60 and owns the 11th fastest time in D3 in the 200. In the field, first-year Lily Luksich owns the 18th best pole vault clearance in the nation.
 
This will be the second meet of the season for a slew of men's track & field student-athletes including sprinters Alex Serrao and Keola Sanchez who both competed at the UW Invite along with vaulter Corey Solomon.
 
Men's Tennis: The Lutes dust off their rackets and will open the spring on Saturday with a dual match against crosstown rival University of Puget Sound. 
 
The Lutes last competed at the ITA Northwest Regionals in September. During ITAs, Michael Campbell put on a big performance in singles, advancing to the sweet 16 in the main draw. Alex Richter found similar success in the consolation bracket while Campbell and doubles partner Derek Stone secured a pair of wins in doubles play.
