TACOMA, Wash. – After earning two victories in yesterday's win over Willamette University, freshman
Libertad Sarmiento added two more on Sunday against Pacific University at Sprinker Recreation Center. The Lutes dropped the match, 6-3.
"We faced some of the top players in the conference, yet competed on every point," said PLU Head Coach
Cheri Campbell. "I'm especially proud of
Libertad Sarmiento and the mental toughness she showed in the match. Her growth as a college player is huge.
Taylor Stokes played her last home match, which can bring a variety of emotions. She did a great job of gathering her focus, particularly in her singles match. We have one week of practice to get ready for our final two matches of the season."
Sarmiento dominated with a 6-2, 6-3 victory at No. 5 in the order and won by default with
Lilian Nguyen at No. 3 doubles. The freshman now is tied for second on the team with four singles victories on the year.
The Lutes struggled in singles action with Stokes leading the way with a pair of games won.
Jillian Chong and
Meggie Burnett also won a pair of games at No. doubles.
Katelyn Gonzalez picked up the other point for the home team, earning the win at No. 6 by default.
PLU will conclude the season next weekend when they head to Linfield University on Saturday and George Fox University on Sunday. First serve against the Wildcats is slated for 2:00 p.m.
