Cutter Claims Two Wins on Senior Day

Results

TACOMA, Wash. — Charlie Cutter made the most of senior day on Saturday afternoon at the PLU Pool. Competing in his last home meet, the senior won two events while Na'inoa Loo won three more in the Pacific Lutheran University men's swimming team's 115-61 setback to crosstown nemesis University of Puget Sound in the final Northwest Conference dual meet of the season.

"Senior meets are always bittersweet since it's an ending and beginning all in one. While it's the end of these Lutes' dual meet collegiate experience, it's a step closer to the great things they will achieve as leaders in their communities, work environments, and beyond," said Head Coach Andrew Lum.

The Lutes opened the meet by winning the mixed 200-yard medley relay with Devin Stanley and Na'inoa Loo part of the PLU relay that clocked a time of one minute, 47.51 seconds.

Charlie Cutter made the most of senior day, winning the 50-yard freestyle by a razor thin margin after touching the wall in 22.56. Cutter would do it again in the 100-yard freestyle, prevailing by four-hundredths of a second with a winning effort of 49.34.

Loo secured his second win of the day in the 100-yard butterfly, finishing in 56.43 with Christian Cutter runner-up in 57.69. Loo teamed up with Stanley again, this time to win the mixed 200-yard medley relay, clocking a 1:36.64.

Stanley was runner-up in the 100-yard breaststroke, clocking a time of 1:05.71 while Tyler Tanaka took second billing in the 200-yard breaststroke in 2:16.59.

"We always look forward to the challenges that every team brings to competition, especially with our crosstown rivals. They have a quality squad full of depth and talent. The competition was gritty today with some very close races and full-fledged action in and out of the water. UPS looks sharp and will come out swinging day one of Conference. We're proud of the fight, tenacity, and spirit of the Lutes on their final dual meet of the season."

Charlie Cutter and Henri Coronado-Volta, the program's two seniors were both honored at the conclusion of the meet.
"We're so honored and privileged to have a group of upstanding people, students, and athletes in the Class of 2023. They've left a very impressive legacy with the coaching staff, team, and PLU community."

The Lutes are back in the pool on Feb. 9 for day one of the 2023 Northwest Conference Championships at the King County Aquatics Center in Federal Way, Wash.

"The Lutes are looking sharp, and we welcome the challenge of all the high quality competition we will get in Federal Way two weeks from now. Our season has built up to these three and a half days. In the end, we know that when the occasion arrives, the Lutes will step up with all their might."
