Women's Soccer Keeps Rolling Against Wildcats in 4-0 Victory

TACOMA, WASH. --- The Pacific Lutheran Women's Soccer team took on the Linfield Wildcats on Sunday. The Lutes shutout the Wildcats in route to a 4-0 victory.

The Lutes offense shined on Sunday, alongside the consistent Lute defense who held their opponents scoreless over the two weekend games.

A staple of head coach Seth Spidahl's offense is to lead in the corner kick category. Following three consecutive kicks in the favor of the Lutes, senior Meghan Michels got the scoring started with a 20th minute goal. Michel's goal came from the foot of senior forward Alyssa Leong.

PLU controlled the possession for the majority of the first half, not allowing the Wildcats to get a shot off until the 44th minute. The pressure from the Lutes persisted in the offensive zone with shots coming in pairs. In the 37th minute, senior Kayden Hulquist found space in the Wildcats zone, and beat the keeper to put the Lutes up 2-0.

At the half, the Lutes lead in shots, 12-2, and corner kicks, 5-1. Resulting in the two-goal lead in favor of the Lutes.

Coming out of the break, the Wildcats gave it their best effort to fight back, but the Lutes defense stood tall. In the 49th minute, junior Julia Causbie was awarded a free kick following a Wildcats yellow card just outside of their box. Causbie executed the free kick with a bending shot that found the upper left portion of the goal.

Senior Lily Dose joined the scoring party just four minutes later when she got the ball past the Wildcats keeper, giving the Lutes a commanding 4-0 lead. Dose's goal came following a pass from senior defender Joelle Buck.

With a wave of reserve substitutions, the Lutes were still able to control the possession and firing shots from every angle while preventing the Wildcats from any chances of a comeback.

"I am really proud of how we played today. The team showed great maturity on the second game of the weekend. Overall, we played really well and created lots of chances to score with shots and corners. It's great to see multiple players scoring goals, and our defense played really well all weekend. We're excited to keep going, but we know we have more work to do as we continue to push this season forward. Go Lutes!"

The Lutes ended their weekend series with a 4-0 win over Linfield. Earning two more home wins while earning consecutive shutouts.

The offensive domination showed in the box score, as the Lutes took 22 shots, with seven being on-target. The defense allowed three total shots, none of which were on-target. Sophomore keeper Abby Winkler did not record a save, but only faced three total shots.

The Lutes will strive to match their performances next weekend against Pacific and Lewis & Clark on East Field at 12 p.m. Saturday, October 28th, and Sunday, October 29th.
