Men's Hoops Punishes Archers, 103-44

TACOMA, Wash. — The Pacific Lutheran University men's basketball team hit the century mark for the first time this season on Tuesday night, steamrolling Portland Bible College 103-44 inside Olson Gymnasium. 

The homestanding Lutes (8-1) scored 12 of the game's opening 15 points, including six from Brandin Riedel and never looked back. PLU's advantage swelled to double digits for the first time on a Jason Montes jumper with 14:45 left in the first half and continued to grow from there with a Jackson Reisner three putting the Lutes up 51-18 at the halftime intermission.

Pacific Lutheran led by at least 32 points the entire second half with a pair of Drew Kraft free throws putting the Lutes in triple digits for the first time since a 102-86 triumph over Willamette University on Jan. 13.

"We challenged the guys to come out tonight with a present minded focus," said Head Coach Chad Murray.

"Sometimes it's difficult to remain in the moment and not be thking about getting home with family. All of them did a nice job with that tonight."

14 of the 15 Lutes in action scored on the night with Reisner leading the way with 14 points off the bench. Montes added 13 with Riedel chipping in 12. Kraft was the fourth Lute in double figures, netting 10 while Miles Nash led the way with six rebounds, five assists, and three steals. 

PLU outrebounded PBC (0-13) by a 42-25 margin and enjoyed a 50-6 edge in points in the paint. The Lutes shot a blistering 60.3 percent (38-for-63) from the floor and canned 12 threes while limiting the Archers to shooting just 28.8 percent (15-for-52) from the field. 

The Lutes are back in action on Dec. 28. trekking to Orange, California for a showdown with Chapman University. Tipoff is set for 7 p.m.
