PORTLAND – The Pacific Lutheran University women's basketball team outscored Lewis & Clark College 25-6 in the third quarter on Friday night to blow open a tight game and allow the Lutes to cruise to a 63-50 victory.
"I'm so proud of this team's perseverance and the way they showed up to play tonight," said PLU Head Coach
Lee Aduddell. "The translation from practice this week to tonight's game was evident in the confident way we shot the ball."
PLU jumped out to a 15-12 lead after one period, but the home team outscored the Lutes 16-14 in the second quarter as the visitors led by just one at the halftime break, 29-28. The Lutes exploded for 25 points over the next 10 minutes, with
Sydney Reisner scoring 16 points in third to build a 54-34 lead.
The Lutes scored just nine points the rest of the way, but never led by less than the final margin of 13. Reisner led the way with 19 points and 10 rebounds, and
Taylor Schmidtke added 18 points. Reisner and Schmidtke combing to shoot 8-of-14 from three-point range.
Ashley Akamine also hit double figures with 12 points and nine rebounds.
PLU will look to continue their winning ways at Willamette University tomorrow. Tip-off against the Bearcats is scheduled for 4:00 p.m.
