Netters Roll Loggers in Non-Conference Clash

TACOMA, Wash. - The Pacific Lutheran University women's tennis squad's early season success continued on Wednesday night, winning all five singles matches in a decisive 6-1 victory over crosstown nemesis University of Puget Sound in a non-conference dual match at the UPS Tennis Pavilion.

"We started off strong leading both doubles matches 3-0. Court 1 lost a close one 6-8 and Court 2 won 8-6. We won all of our singles matches which was great and came back from being down in 3 of them," said Head Coach Michael Harmon.

"It was a good win, but we still have a lot to work on. We will face a far different team in a few weeks in our conference match and they will be adding three new women to the roster with one of those being their top player. I loved how we hung in there and didn't let a rowdy UPS crowd rattle us. Amazing comebacks and performance today but still a long way to go."

Jillian Chong and Meggie Burnett cranked out an 8-6 win in No. 2 doubles, while at No. 1, the Lutes' (4-1) tandem of Chloe Andrewjeski and Lilian Nguyen were tripped up 8-6.

Andrewjeski trailed 3-5 in the first set of her match at No. 1 singles but buckled down a prevailed, 7-5, 6-0, over Puget Sound's Paige Shinall. Chong rallied from an opening set defeat to win, 2-6, 6-2, 6-0, at No. 2 while Ella Burriss prevailed, 7-6, 6-3 at No. 4. Burnett blanked UPS's Zoe Richter, 6-0, 6-0, at No. 5.

The Lutes are back on the court on Friday night, opening up a four-match homestand inside their new home at the Galbraith Tennis Center in Tacoma. PLU's squares off against Highline Community College at 7 p.m. on Friday before hosting College of Idaho the following day.
