Box Score 2 ATLANTA – Pacific Lutheran University senior outfielder
Erin McGrath set the career doubles record with a RBI two-base hit in her first at-bat of Sunday's doubleheader at Emory University to set the school's all-time doubles record. She added two more doubles in Game 2 to bring her career total to 49 and set the school's extra-base hit record at 84. The Lutes dominated the day, winning 11-0 in five innings in Game 1 and hanging on for an 8-4 win in Game 2.
"What a response from yesterday," said PLU Head Coach
Traci Barrett. "Our offense was on fire. The work we put in making adjustments within an at-bat payed off throughout the whole weekend, but especially today.
Erin McGrath broke two records with today's stellar performance.Â
Cassidy Conrad only allowed two hits in the Game 1 win and also came in to close out Game 2 with two runners on. It was a great day for Cass in the circle.
Casey Wright's grand slam was so awesome and such a fun moment for our team. We got back to playing solid defense and finishing plays. This team is special and made of such amazing young women. It is my honor to coach them."
Â
Game 1
Mari Foster, McGrath,
Kennedy Kila and Chaela Galapon all doubled in the first inning to put the Lutes up 3-0 and they never looked back. The PLU attack produced 14 hits in just 15 outs in a 11-0 drubbing in the opening game.
Â
Cassidy Conrad (3-1) tossed a complete game shutout for her third win of the young season. She allowed just two hits on the day and did not allow a baserunner to reach scoring position.
Â
Already leading 7-0 in the fifth, catcher
Casey Wright finished off the Eagles with a grand slam to left center field. The top of the order crushed Emory pitching with Foster, Wright, McGrath, and Kila all having multiple hits. Wright led the way with the four RBI.
Kayla Terlecki also came off the bench with a pinch-hit RBI single and a run scored.
Â
Game 2
PLU seemed ready to cruise into a doubleheader sweep as the visitors led 8-1 heading into the bottom of the sixth inning. The Eagles scored three times in the sixth and brought the tying run to the plate in both the sixth and seventh innings.
Emma Ware got the Lutes out of the jam in the sixth, while Conrad stepped into the circle and retired three of the four batters she faced, including back-to-back strikeouts to preserve the win.
Â
Kila's single up the middle put the Lutes up 1-0 in the first, but the Eagles answered with a tally in the bottom half off of her. A five-run third proved to be the difference in the game and McGrath and Kila tacked on RBI singles in the fourth and sixth, respectively.
Â
Kila earned the win in the circle, tossing five innings and allowing just one run. Offensively, she was also effective with three hits and three RBI. McGrath was a perfect 4-for-4 with two RBI and two runs scored, while
Rylie Wada and
Emma Ware also had two hits. Wright tripled and
Paola Garcia doubled to aid the effort.
