SPOKANE, Wash.-- The Pacific Lutheran University men's swimming squad closed out its road trip to eastern Washington on Saturday afternoon, getting a trio of runner-up finishes in a 156-35 Northwest Conference dual meet setback to powerhouse Whitworth University.
"Whitworth asked some very tough questions for the Lutes today, but we navigated a very deep and talented team to the best of our abilities. It's a great experience for us to race quality competitors as we continue along our journey towards the Conference Championships in February," said Head Coach
Andrew Lum.
"The NWC will continue to ask hard questions of us the next couple of weeks, and we feel confident that the Lutes will have the answers at the end of the season."
The Lutes opened the meet with a second place showing in the 400-yard medley relay, finishing a split second behind the Pirates.
Devin Stanley,
Tyler Tanaka,
Dylan Dang, and
Khosbayar Amgalan finished the race in three minutes, 37.92 seconds, touching the wall just over a second behind Whitworth's winning squad.
Tanaka would tally a runner-up finish in the 200-yard backstroke, touching the wall in 2:07.97 while Amgalan, Tanaka,
Na'inoa Loo, and Stanley closed out the day by placing second in the 400-yard freestyle relay in 3:18.58.
"We're gritty, tenacious, and buoyed each other well this weekend. The Lutes are prepared to finish off our regular season at home for our last few competitions!"
Amgalan was third in the 50-yard freestyle in 23.11 while Dang collected a third place finish in the 200-yard butterfly (2:07.51).
The Lutes return to the pool on Friday evening, hosting Linfield University at 6 p.m. at the PLU Pool.
