Men's Swimming Closes Out Home Weekend Against Whitworth

TACOMA, Wash. --- The Pacific Lutheran University Men's Swimming team closes out the opening weekend home stand against a pair of the top-ranked Northwest Conference opponents, falling to Whitworth on Sunday, 140-62.

The Whitworth Pirates, tabbed No.1 in the NWC Preseason Coaches Poll, opened the meet by taking the first three finishes in the 200-yard Medley Relay. The Lutes were able to get right in event six, the 200-yard Freestyle, as Tyler Tanaka took first with a time of 1:50.04.

Freshman Dakota Domingo had a solid second meet of his collegiate career, following Tanaka's win with a win of his own in the 50-yard Freestyle with a time of 22.04. Domingo beat the next-best Pirate by 17-hundredths of a second. The freshman later claimed the next win for PLU in the 100-yard Freestyle, with a time of 48.84 seconds.

Senior Devin Stanley returned to action in the 100-yard Backstroke and earned himself a second-place finish with a race of 57.44 seconds. Christian Georgi came off of his strong collegiate debut in last night's meet against Whitman, to take second in the 100-yard Breastroke. Na'inoa Loo finished just eight hundredths of a second behind Georgie to take third in the event.

The Lutes capped off the day with a third-place finish in the 200-yard Freestyle Relay, as Whitworth's nine event wins gave them a 140-62 victory.

"We had a very challenging task this weekend competing against high quality competition in Whitman and Whitworth. The Bucks came out swinging hard today, and never took their foot off the gas pedal. It's a great perspective to peer into what exciting opportunities will lie ahead for us in February. Our first-years had no problems transitioning into their first college dual meets this weekend. They truly showed their fight and determination with themselves, and with all their teammates."

The Lutes hit the road for a stretch of four road meets, before returning home in 2025 on January 18th against George Fox.
