11 Lutes Score in Exhibition at D2 SPU

SEATTLE, Wash. — The Pacific Lutheran University women's basketball team returned to the court after a 17-day layoff on Tuesday, dropping an exhibition game to Division II Seattle Pacific University 73-45 at Brougham Pavilion.

11 total Lutes scored baskets while 16 total players saw action on the court. Kasidy Javernick led the team with 11 points, shooting three-for-four from beyond the arc in just 21 minutes of action. Kate Wooten came off the bench and scored seven points and grabbed a team-high seven rebounds in just 15 minutes of work while Brooke Samura dropped a half dozen points. Emi Wada was the distributor, with four assists on the evening.

"An exhibition like tonight is a great opportunity for us to challenge ourselves to both gain confidence and expose some weaknesses," said Head Coach Lee Aduddell.

"It was also good to be back on the floor together before we resume the regular season with tomorrow's contest."

The game was tight in the first quarter with a Javernick three pulling the Lutes within a single point of the Falcons at 8-7 with 3:36 left. Seattle Pacific answered with the next nine points, a run that stretched into the early moments of the second quarter. The Falcon lead was reduced to five on a Kate Wooten layup midway through the second but the hosts added to their safety net, enjoying a 30-21 edge at the intermission. The Falcons would own at least a nine-point buffer the entire second half to secure the win.

Tuesday's exhibition saw all 16 players in the game play at least seven minutes with nobody logging more action than Javernick's 21 minutes. PLU held SPU to shooting just 37.8 percent (28-for-74) from the field and out-rebounded the hosts 46-44. Almost half of PLU's point production came from the bench with the reserves dropping 22 of the team's 45 points.

PLU is back on the court tomorrow night, making the short trek to Kirkland, Washington for a non-conference showdown against Northwest University. Tipoff is set for 7 p.m.
