PORTLAND, Ore. — The Pacific Lutheran University men's basketball team collected its second straight road victory on Saturday night, slipping past Northwest Conference rival Lewis & Clark College 74-63 behind another big scoring night from
Miles Nash.
"Tonight was about staying focused, being professional and doing everything with as much energy and effort as possible. We answered the bell and performed well as a team on both ends at key points in the game tonight," said Head Coach
Chad Murray.
Just a night removed from scoring a career-high 24 points
Miles Nash was at it again. On Saturday, the Arizona native dropped a game-high 23 points, shooting nine-for-16 from the floor with seven rebounds and four assists.
"Miles had an incredible weekend offensively. We also ask him to guard the other teams best offensive players. So he has a lot on his plate and he handled everything this weekend wonderfully."
The opening seven minutes featured 11 lead changes and three ties with neither team leading by more than a possession. A
Mack Hepper three changed that, giving PLU (13-10, 6-8 NWC) a 17-14 advantage with 11:52 remaining in the first half. PLU would lead the rest of the game with Hepper's trey sparking a 13-2 run to stake a double-digit advantage. The host Pioneers (6-17, 2-12 NWC) dug into the lead with PLU enjoying a 36-31 lead at the halftime intermission.
PLU would lead by at least five points the entire second half en route to the 11-point win.
"All in all, I was really impressed with our overall response to the events of last weekend. We knew we didn't play well, I certainly didn't coach well, and we wanted to use this weekend as a way to show who we really are."
Brandin Riedel was the only other Lute in double figures with 13 points and seven rebounds. Hepper had nine points while
Jason Montes and
Sam Noland both chipped in eight.
PLU took care of the ball, winning the turnover battle 13-7, including a 19-11 edge in points off turnovers.
"We're excited for the challenge ahead as we look to end our season on a high note and celebrate our seniors."
The Lutes are back at home on Friday, hosting NWC leaders Whitworth University at 8 p.m. inside Olson Gymnasium.
