TACOMA, Wash. — Anna Iverson and
Sal Mattivi provided a one-two punch for the Pacific Lutheran University women's cross country team on Saturday, helping the Lutes finish eighth overall at the annual PLU Invitational held at the southeast side of campus.
"It was a hard meet after a couple hard weeks of training. I'm really proud of how both teams competed and put it all out there," said Head Coach
Jacob Wahlenmaier.
"Both Anna and Sal tore it up and showed that they're going to make an impact at the end of the season."
Iverson finished 23rd overall and 20th among scoring runners, making the three laps around the 6,000-meter flat course in 23 minutes, 41.0 seconds. Mattivi was 43rd overall in the first year's first collegiate 6K race, crossing the finish line in 24:30.3.
Annika Deazley was 58th in 25:20.2 with
Zoey Diviney close behind in 64th in 25:47.7.
Jessalyn Robles rounded out the Lutes' scoring contingent— placing 73rd in 26:17.6.
Natalie Moran-Padilla and
Victoria Lindley ran together and finished back to back in 77th and 78th, respectively. Moran-Padilla crossing the timing mat in 26:27.9 with Lindley a tenth of a second behind.
Pacific Lutheran tallied 208 points in the team standings, finishing eighth among the 14-team field. Northwest Conference rival George Fox University won the meet with 31 points with fellow league rival Lewis & Clark College runner-up with 69 points.
The Lutes are back to training and will lace up the spikes and race again on Oct. 5 at the Charles Bowles Invitational hosted by Willamette University.
