Lemma & Caprye Headline Lutes in Seattle

Results

SEATTLE, Wash. — The Pacific Lutheran University track & field teams opened up the 2025 calendar year on Friday and Saturday, competing at the UW Preview Meet and Mile City inside the University of Washington's Dempsy Indoor Facility.

"It was a solid two days. Grady had another strong early meet, matching his PR in the hurdles and running a strong 200. And Kai had a really strong two days as well," said Head Coach Trey Henderson

"Abi was another one that jumped well and has put two strong performances together both today and in December."

On Friday, Grady Lemma matched his personal best in the 60-meter hurdles. The senior clocked a time of 8.32 seconds in the preliminary heats, matching a time he ran back in December in Spokane. Lemma followed that up with a time of 8.39 in the finals, finishing sixth overall. Lemma also ran the 200-meter dash, crossing the finish 16th overall in 22.94.

Kai Sorensen ran a personal best time in the 1,000-meters, looping the track in 2:32.96 to finish 12th overall.

In the field events, Abi Caprye was 14th in the high jump, clearing five feet, one inch on her third attempt at the height.

Bridger Hanis raised the bar on his season best in the high jump, clearing five feet, 11 ½ inches to finish eighth overall. The performance was almost an inch higher than his previous season best from the Spokane Invite back in December.

The meet featured competitors from all three NCAA divisions along with athletes from Canadian colleges and universities.

Saturday's Mile City event saw 449 male competitors and 216 female competitors toe the line in the open races. Noah Friedrich ran a personal best in the miles, clocking a 4:36.50 and placing sixth in his heat while Kai Sorensen was just over a second shy of a personal record, clocking a 4:25.71.

Jessalyn Robles placed fourth in her heat, clocking a 5:48.22 in her first collegiate mile with Sal Mattivi 10th in a different heat in a time of 5:49.96.

The Lutes take next weekend off and will return to Seattle on Jan. 31 for the UW Invitational.
