PORTLAND, Ore. — The Pacific Lutheran University women's swimming team won its second straight Northwest Conference dual meet on Saturday afternoon, overwhelming host Lewis & Clark College 109-83.
The Lutes won seven of the 11 events swam on Saturday with
Scout Hawkins win three of those. The first-year crushed the field in the 1,650-yard freestyle, logging an over two minute win in the event after touching the wall in 19 minutes, 55.44 seconds. Hawkins edged out teammate
Riley Maher (4:52.78) to win the 400-yard individual medley in 4:50.03 before closing the afternoon with a victory in the 500-yard freestyle, besting runner-up Dahlia Linkow of Lewis & Clark by over eight seconds in 5:43.45.
Karina Yevstifieieva won the 50-yard freestyle, sprinting to the win in 26.33 while
Melissa Zuniga topped the field in the 100-yard butterfly, finishing in 1:03.97. Maher secured top billing in the 100-yard breaststroke, notching a nearly two second win in 1:12.81 while
Julissa Pernsteiner, Yevstifieieva,
Anna Haneda, and
Matthea Gaines teamed up to win the 200-yard freestyle relay in 1:45.92, enjoying a comfortable three second gap on the host Pioneers.
Pacific Lutheran logged runner-up finishes from the 200-yard medley relay team (1:55.83), and Haneda in the 100-yard freestyle (59.72).
The Lutes close out the dual meet season next Saturday with a 1 p.m. showdown on the road against crosstown nemesis University of Puget Sound.
