MCMINNVILLE, Ore. — The Pacific Lutheran University women's soccer team battled back-and-forth with the Linfield University Wildcats Saturday morning as
Liv Olson's late 79th minute game-winner seals their fate giving the Lutes a 1-0 decision.
PLU improves their overall record to 10-2-5 and 10-0-3 in Northwest Conference play. The Lutes remain on top of the NWC table with 33 points two points ahead of crosstown rivals University of Puget Sound.
A game that was a heavyweight duel between the first place and third place teams in the NWC didn't disappoint defensively. Linfield was held to only two total shots, while PLU managed to total six shots their lowest amount of the season. The number one ranked defense in the NWC put on a defensive clinic allowing zero shots in the second half and earning their 11th shutout of the season.
Liv Olson broke the deadlock late in the second half in the 79th minute scoring on a breakaway goal off a through pass from
Ally Tattar placing a shot past the Wildcat keeper.
Abby Winkler earns the win in goal compiling 90 total minutes and one save. The Lutes defense is allowing a blistering .353 goals per game.
Lutes return to action tomorrow as they face Pacific University on the road with a kickoff lined up for 11 AM.
