TACOMA, Wash.— The Pacific Lutheran University women's soccer extend their Northwest Conference champion winning streak to nine consecutive years with a 3-0 shutout victory over the Whitman College Blues Sunday afternoon.
PLU came in to the contest T-1st place with the University of Puget Sound with everything on the line in this final contest. The Lutes finish the season 12-2-6 overall and 12-0-4 NWC play completing an unbeaten season in conference play.
After a lethargic start from both teams, PLU finally capitalized finding
Ally Tattar who raced through the midfield and put a shot away near post off a feed by
Liv Olson in the 35th minute. Both sides would continue to joust for an advantage as they began the second half with the Blues out shooting the Lutes 6-3.
Kaitlyn Lemus vision opened up the Lutes offense firing a pass up the field that was deflected in the box to
Olivia Boehm who lofted a ball over the Blues goalkeeper to give PLU a two goal advantage. Tattar decide two goals wasn't enough and put the dagger into the Blues scoring in the 84th minute from whipped in ball from
Kiana Gutierrez.
Although the Lutes offense was out shot 12-8 today the defense for the Lutes showed up in promising occasions.
Abby Winkler getting the start in goal logging 69 minutes finishing with three saves, one of them being penalty kick opportunity for Whitman. Winkler would finish the game in the field as a midfielder as
Abbey Goetz stepped up and played 20 minutes in between the posts and finished with one superhero-esque save.
