MCMINNVILLE, Ore.--- The Pacific Lutheran University women's lacrosse team faced their second road challenge of the inaugural season, falling to the Linfield Wildcats, 16-3 in Oregon.
Similar to most games for the Lutes, freshman
Taylee Alldredge took the opening draw control into the offensive zone and fired the first shot of the game, this time, it was saved by the Wildcats keeper. In response, Linfield's attack drove down and scored the first goal of the game with 13:36 left in the quarter, taking an early lead over the Lutes.
Alldredge and the Lutes offense looked to respond, but the attackers shots were stopped by the Wildcats keeper yet again. Linfield scored a pair of goals after causing the Lutes to turn the ball over, meanwhile Alldredge was unable to put the Lutes on the board in the first even though she had a pair of free position shot attempts.
Linfield scored a trio of goals in the final 2:18 to get out to a commanding 6-0 lead over PLU. The Wildcats attacked continued to open the second quarter, missing off of the post before scoring just 1:46 into the second period of action.
Kassie Diller and the Lutes defense began to settle in, as they forced a pair of Wildcats turnovers, with the latter falling into the hands of Alldredge who would take it to the house, giving the Lutes their first score of the game; PLU matched Linfield's efforts in the second quarter, sending it to halftime with a score of 7-1.
Coming out of the break with some momentum,
Issabella Marchio and the Lutes executed the player-up opportunity, as Marchio found the back of the net on a free position shot to cut the deficit to just five.
The Wildcats answered back a couple of minutes later, extending their lead to six before applying the pressure with 7:40 remaining to go up 9-2. Alldredge drove the field in the final minute, but her last-second attempt missed wide of the net.
Linfield would tack on four more goals in the first six minutes of the final quarter, extending their lead to now double-digits. Alldredge connected with Flaspohler with 7:14 remaining to make it a 13-3 game; Flaspohler's first goal since the inaugural game against Eastern Oregon.
Linfield added three more goals to close out the game, taking the first matchup with the Lutes, 16-3.
Alldredge led the offense with six shots, with four on-goal, and her one reaching the back of the net. Flaspohler and Marchio's goals came on their only attempts of the game, meanwhile the Lutes forced nine total turnovers. Goalkeeper
Kassie Diller made 13 saves on 46 shots faced, boasting a total on-goal save percentage just under 45%.
The Lutes enjoy a small break following a week filled with three games; as they are set to host four-straight games on East Field from March 26
th through April 9
th against NWC opponents.
