Women's Lacrosse Drop Home Contest to Linfield

TACOMA, Wash.--- The Pacific Lutheran University women's lacrosse team (1-8, 0-2 NWC) closed out the home weekend on Sunday, falling to the conference-leading Linfield Wildcats (7-3, 3-0 NWC) in a rain-filled contest.
 
Lia Zaboski and the Lutes took the opening draw control, but we shut down by the Wildcats, leading to a strong counter-attack from Linfield. A pair of shots were saved and hit the post, before taking a 1-0 lead with 12:57 remaining in the first. Linfield totaled seven goals in the first 11-minutes, maintaining offensive possession for the majority of the quarter. Freshman Taylee Alldredge teamed up with Annie Latimer to take the Lutes first two shots late in the quarter, earning a save for the Linfield goalkeeper. The Wildcats led 10-0 over the Lutes through the first 15-minutes of play.
 
Linfield continued to control the game in the second quarter, adding four goals and holding the Lutes without a shot until Latimer's free position shot missed the net wide; the Wildcats led 14-0 at the halftime break.
 
With the halftime adjustments in place, the Lutes defense locked in as sophomore goalkeeper Kassie Diller and the defense held the Wildcats scoreless for the first eight minutes of play. Latimer broke the shutout with 8:52 remaining in the third, getting past the defense to score her second goal of the season in just the last three games. Linfield added two more late in the quarter, with one coming in the closing seconds of the game, making it a 16-1 game entering the final quarter of play.
 
The Lutes took one shot towards the end of the game, with Issabella Marchio's shot being stopped by the Wildcats keeper. The Wildcats remaining atop the Northwest Conference standings, taking a 20-1 win over the Lutes on East Field.
 
Latimer scored the lone goal for the Lutes on Sunday, also leading the team with three of the Lutes six total taken. Taylee Alldredge had a pair of shots, while Isabella Marchio took one. PLU caused five turnovers with Alldredge picking up a team-high two ground balls. Kassie Diller played all 60-minutes in goal for the Lutes, making 12 saves, bringing her total to 23 for the weekend.
 
The Lutes will host cross-town rival Puget Sound (3-7, 0-1 NWC) in a mid-week matchup this Wednesday on East Field at 6 p.m.
