TACOMA, Wash. — Shaela Allen-Greggs had a dozen kills, helping the Pacific Lutheran University volleyball squad open Northwest Conference play on the right foot on Friday night, sweeping visiting Lewis & Clark College 3-0 (25-20, 25-11, 25-22) inside Olson Gymnasium.
The first set was tied at four before the Lutes scored the next seven points, getting an
Alexis Eggert kill to start the run in addition to a pair of aces from the junior. The Lutes (3-5, 1-0 NWC) would hold a lead the rest of the set with an Allen-Greggs kill clinching a 25-20 set win.
The Pioneers (0-8, 0-1 NWC) tallied the first point of the second set but it was all Lutes after that, scoring the next seven points, including four kills from Allen-Greggs. Pacific Lutheran led the rest of the way, scoring 10 of the final 12 points for a 25-11 set win with a
Macy Matsushima ace clinching the set.
The third set was a battle with eight lead changes and 12 ties. A Lewis & Clark service error followed by a
Haley Goto kill proved to be just enough as the Lutes secured the 25-22 set win to secure the sweep.
"It was a good way to start of the conference season," said Head Coach
Kevin Aoki.
"It's always a working in progress and we're looking forward to a tough match tomorrow night against a very good George Fox team."
Allen-Greggs was in double figure kills for the fourth time this season, notching 12 on just 23 attacks, boasting a .391 attack percentage. Goto had four kills on 10 attacks while
Ayre Takamoto had a double-double with 20 assists and 12 digs. Matsushima matched Takamoto's defensive production, netting 12 digs.Â
The Lutes close out their homestand tomorrow night, hosting George Fox University at 6 p.m.
