Men's Soccer: 10 goals scored. 0 goals allowed. Three Northwest Conference victories. It's safe to say a rugged non-conference slate for the Lutes (4-3, 3-0 NWC) is now paying dividends as the two-time defending league champions have run roughshod over their first three opponents of the double round robin conference schedule.
Pacific Lutheran opened NWC play on Saturday with a 3-0 shutout of George Fox University before tacking on another 3-0 victory the following day against Lewis & Clark College.
Owen Bliskis had a brace (two goals) and
Connor O'Brien had two assists in a 4-0 shelling of University of Puget Sound on Wednesday evening.
The Lutes have now gone 316 minutes without allowing a goal, including an impressive save from
Gio Aguilar-Gutierrez on a first half penalty kick against Puget Sound.
Women's Soccer: The eight-time NWC Champion Lutes (2-2-3, 2-0-1 NWC) have opened league play with a bang, picking up two wins and a tie at home at East Field.
Bella Hanna was the hero on Saturday, scoring the game's lone goal in the 16th minute in a win over George Fox.
Kiana Gutierrez assisted on the game-winner before scoring the game-winner herself the following afternoon in a 2-0 shutout of Lewis & Clark.
On Wednesday the Lutes fell behind early before getting a goal from
Nahe Bukoski to salvage a 1-1 draw with arch nemesis Puget Sound.
Gutierrez finished the weekend with one goal and two assists and was named the NWC Offensive Player of the Week for the first time in her career on Monday.
Men's Cross Country: All nine NWC schools were on campus on Saturday, testing out the course for the 2025 NWC Championships while competing at the PLU Invitational.
Kai Sorensen led the charge for the Lutes, finishing the 8,000-meter course in 26 minutes, 36.1 seconds to place 24th overall.
Noah Friedrich was 52nd in 27:40.8 while first-year
Corder Janes was 96th (28:59.7) in his first collegiate race at the 8K distance.
PLU tallied 213 points in the team standings, securing ninth overall and finishing 40-points ahead of Everett Community College.
Volleyball: The Lutes rolled past Lewis & Clark (3-0) and George Fox (3-1) over the weekend before falling in three sets to a red hot Puget Sound on Tuesday in a battle of NWC preseason favorites.
Shaela Allen-Greggs had a dozen kills to lead the Lutes against the Pioneers while
Alexis Eggert tallied 16 kills in the four-set win over George Fox.
Haley Goto was deadly efficient in the win over GFU, finishing with 12 kills on just 17 attacks.
Tuesday's clash was tighter than the score indicated with the Lutes falling by razor thin 25-23 and 25-22 margins in sets one and three.
Women's Cross Country: Sal Mattivi and
Maddie Mitchell set the tone for the Lutes on Saturday, finishing just three seconds apart on the home course at the PLU Invitational.
Mattivi navigated the 6,000-meter course in 24:58.1 to place 47th overall while Mitchell was 48th in 25:01.1.
PLU tallied 248 points ion the team standings, finishing 10th overall and enjoying a 38-point cushion on Everett CC.
Women's Golf: PLU opened the fall season on Monday and Tuesday, competing at the Grisham Memorial Shootout at The Home Course. Kat Sabarillo led the way, making her Lute debut by finishing 59th overall at a tournament that featured eight Division II schools. Sabarillo shot a two-round score of 173 (82-91) while
Kathleen Pullin was 64th with a 181 (92-89).
Football: Pacific Lutheran (1-2) closed out its non-conference slate on Saturday, falling 45-8 to 23rd-ranked Trinity University.
Emmett Holt scored the Lutes' lone touchdown of the day, catching a four-yard pass in the third quarter while
Dayton Savea caught a pass on the two-point conversion.
The Lutes take the weekend off before hosting Willamette on Oct. 4 in the annual Homecoming game.
Men's Golf: The Lutes opened the fall at the Whitworth Invitational back on Sept. 15 and have been idle since. That tournament saw PLU finish fifth as a team, shooting a 594 and finishing nine strokes behind Linfield University.
Luke Butler led the way with an eighth place showing, shooting a 144 (70-74).
Tanner Frinell was five strokes back in 17th with a 149 (76-73) while
Soren Bostrom was the third Lute inside the top 20, finishing 19th with a 150 (77-73).
