TACOMA, Wash.— The Pacific Lutheran University women's swimming team continued their strong Northwest Conference campaign by beating the Boxers of Pacific University 109-55 on Friday night.
PLU opened the new year competing against the Boxers after an exciting winter training trip in Hawaii competing in an exhibition against the University of Hawaii.
The Lutes started the night with a strong showing placing first and second in the 400 yard medley relay with the A team of
Riley Maher,
Julissa Pernsteiner,
Harper Canessa, and
Matthea Gaines finishing in 4:26.82.
Lola Chargualaf and
Karina Yevstifieieva won their individual events in the 200 freestyle and 100 freestyle with times of 2:09.94 and 56.70 respectively.
Emma Gassman would continue the positive momentum finishing first in the 200 yard backstroke with a time 2:16.86. Gassman would also take first in the 200 IM.
Riley Maher would also take first place in the 200 yard breaststroke with a time of 2:41.21.
PLU also had event wins from
Anna Haneda in the 50 freestyle (27.57),
Julia Lorenzo in the 500 freestyle (6:04.07), and would close things out with the 400 yard freestyle relay taking first and second. The team of
Scout Hawkins, Gaines, Haneda, and
Alyssa Anderson posted a winning time of 4:10.89.
Lutes will return to action on Friday January 23rd as they travel to Spokane to take on Whitworth University.
